Hat-trick of honours for Ynysddu

Three residents of the small mining village of Ynysddu recognised in the New Year’s Honours List have been praised

John and Patricia Bonthron have been recognised as fostering carers for their services to children (MBEs) while Eirwen Griffth Roberts (also MBE) was recognised for her services to the community of Ynysddu.

Allan Pritchard, Plaid Cymru leader of Caerphilly Council, said: “I am delighted that these unsung heroes of the community of Ynyddu had now been publicly recognised for their unstinting work over many years.”

Local Plaid ward councillor Don Cullen added: "These are people of the community and not the highly paid actors and footballers that we hear so much about.

He added: “I am sure that everyone from the village of Ynysddu will feel proud that 'their' neighbours have been honoured in this way.”
