Decision by Dragons to play top game at Caerphilly welcomed by Plaid councillor

Plaid Cymru councillor Mike Prew has expressed his delight that Newport Gwent Dragons will play their final Guinness PRO12 match at the home of Caerphilly RFC.

The match against Cardiff Blues will be staged at the Constructaquote Stadium on Saturday, May 6,  kicks off at 5:15pm.

Mike, a member of the hard-working committee at Caerphilly, was involved in a crucial meeting with club chair, Alex James, Dragons Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Davies and the council chief executive, Chris Burns and his team.

Mike, who represents the Morgan Jones ward, said: “This is fantastic news both for Caerphilly Rugby Club, but also for the town.

“I hope we can get a sell-out crowd of 6,000 for what is the final match of the PRO12 season.

“It doesn’t get much bigger in Welsh rugby terms than a derby between Newport Gwent Dragons and Cardiff Blues and we’ll make sure that every fan will have a great time at the Constructaquote Stadium.

“This shows the ambition there is at Caerphilly and I hope Caerphilly can host more big games in the future.”
