Gold medal winning bowler praised by Caerphilly Town Mayor

Town Mayor Simon Morgan has congratulated Caerphilly’s Commonwealth Gold Medal winner Marc Wyatt on his achievement.

Marc won gold in the Bowls Doubles event on the Gold Coast earlier this year, beating Scotland in the final.

The Commonwealth Games is considered by bowls players to be equivalent to the World Cup as bowls is not recognised as an Olympic sport.

Simon Morgan first caught up with Marc at an event at Caerphilly Library and later presented Marc with a framed certificate on behalf of the town council at Caerphilly Bowls Club in Morgan Jones Park on Saturday (May 5).

Plaid Cymru councillor Simon Morgan said: "It was great to congratulate Marc on behalf of the town council. It’s just another example of the wealth of talent in this town. Clubs like Caerphilly Bowls Club, based in Morgan Jones Park, deserve all the support we can give to nurture this talent."

Fellow Plaid Cymru Councillor James Fussell added: “What comes across talking to Marc is the determination to succeed as well as the support from his family and the club.  There can’t be many things better than representing your country and succeeding, and they can all share in that.”
